Jim was born on June 3rd, 1949 in to Ollie and Marie Whitcomb in Oakland California. The family relocated to Denver, Colorado in September 1961. Jim graduated from Denver South High School in 1967, and upon completion ventured to work at the prominent Denver General Hospital to become a Radiographic Technician and X-Ray Specialist.
He joined the US Army in October of 1969, and was stationed at Ft. Richardson, Alaska. Upon an honorable discharge in 1972, he returned to Colorado and started working at St. Joseph’s Hospital in the X-Ray department. While working at the hospital, he started his Bachelor Degree at Metro State College in Business Management. Jim earned his bachelor degree with the honorable recognition of Summa Cum Laude in 1977.
In 1974 Jim fell in love with and married Susan Toppila. They had two sons, Eric in March of 1977, and Brent in October of 1980. Following the birth of his sons, he began an over 30 year career with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 2013.
He had endured many years of health problems after retirement, but was able to maintain his sense of optimism, humor, and responsibilities.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Ollie, and mother, Marie. He is survived by his family including his wife, Susan; sons, Eric (Veronica) of Aurora, Brent of Golden; granddaughter, Chloe Stevenson of Colorado Springs; sister, Sharon Dymerski (Dan); nephew, Nathan Dymerski (Melissa) of Evergreen; niece, Courtney Dymerski Abbott of Denver; and niece, Sarah Rowell (Tom) of Pueblo.
Jim will be deeply missed and fondly thought of by all who knew him.
