Letitia Rose McCrea, 56, escaped this earth January 19, 2021. She died as we may all want to, by going to sleep and not waking up. She was in good health, and had not been ill, so her cause of death is unknown. "Tish," "Tisha," or "Tisha-Kitty" as she was known to friends and family was married to Kevin Dwayne Rook for 31 years. They made their home together in Denver, CO for the last 20. While they did not have human children, Tisha and Kevin were parent to a number of four-legged creatures over the years, loving all of them, most especially kitties. Tisha would have happily described herself as a 'crazy cat lady' even dressing the part. She loved animal print clothing and would be wearing it in some form or another most of the time. Quirky was her style and she excelled at it. Letitia's parents had planed to name her Letitia Ann when she was born. Her older sister Rise had other ideas. Having recently read a book about Sally Roses the cat, Rise felt that would be a perfect name for her new baby sister. A compromise was reached and so she became Letitia Rose when she born May 9, 1916 in San Antonio. Little did family know at the time how appropriate it would be to give her a kitty's name.
She grew up in Yancey, then went to college at NTSU in Denton, where she met Kevin while both were students there. Tisha graduated from NTSU with a degree in psychology and then began work on a master's degree. She was a student of life, absorbing knowledge and information like a sponge. There were few topics she did not have a conversant knowledge of and she always sought to learn more. She had a lifetime love of reading even reading encyclopedias just for fun.
Those who knew Tisha loved her and will never forget her. Words simply cannot capture her degree of originality. She marched to the beat of her own drum, which made her late for everything, but she was always worth the wait. Guileless she was childlike in ways, accepting, affirming, and loving. She cheered the underdogs in life, loved her family and enjoyed a delightful sense of humor. A slight pixie of a girl with her long blond hair, inquisitive blue eyes and tinkling laugh, she loved wildflowers, sunshine, and being in the water - especially in Hawaii.
Letitia was preceded in death by her doting parents, Auda Vee and Jeanette McCrea of Yancey. She is survived by her loving husband, Kevin Rook, PhD., his parents, George and Kay Rook of Tyler; sister in law, Kimberly Strobel, and nephews Brad and Sean Strobel of Keller; her older sister, Rise Cady-McCrea and her husband Mark D. Cady, MD of Rochester, NY and their children Clark and Camille Cady-McCrea. Jeanne McCrea of Dallas was Tisha's favorite cousin.
As no services will be held loved ones will cherish their own memories. Tisha will be scattering in Hawaii, a place she and Kevin loved. Her family and friends look forward to their reunion when they are together again, in Christ.
