Rafael Lorenzo Sanchez Gras was born in San German, Provincia de Holguin, Cuba. He obtained his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) degree in accounting at the University of Havana in Havana, Cuba. Rafael worked as a CPA at Almanaque Schneer until the revolution. After the revolution’s victory, Rafael worked as a specialist for the Economic Central Planning Junta, known in Spanish by the acronym JUCEPLAN, which was charged with long-term economic planning at a national level. Mr. Sanchez was employed with JUCEPLAN in Havana, Cuba until July 1967 when he immigrated to the United States via Spain with his wife and daughter. Upon arriving in Colorado, Rafael worked as an accountant in financial reporting for the University of Colorado.
Rafael reunited with his soul mate, Irma Josefina Torres Sanchez, in the afterlife on January 25, 2014. In addition, he is preceded in death by: his parents, Serafin Sanchez Delgado and Pura Maria Gras Delgado, his sister, Neyda (Manolin) Antonia Sanchez Gras Sanchez and brothers, Serafin (Hilda) Sanchez and Ignacio Sanchez Gras. Mr. Sanchez is survived by: his daughter, Maria Elena Buerman, brother, Manuel (Aida) Sanchez and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews in Colorado, Kansas and Cuba.
A celebration of life mass will take place on Friday, February 7, 2014 at 11:00 am at Guardian Angels Catholic Church located at 1843 West 52nd Avenue, Denver, CO 80221. A reception will follow immediately after the service in the church hall.
