It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Drew. Born in Montreal, son of Andrew Gilmour and Mary Doris (nee Sheldon) and predeceased by brother Gerald, Drew passed away peacefully at Southlake Regional Health Centre, with his family at his side. Beloved husband for 35 years of Lorraine (nee Baltera) and exceptional father and hero to Jennifer, Andrew and Matthew, and proud grandfather of Mary and Stephen .His passing is mourned by all his nieces and nephews and by his many friends near and far who remember him for his intelligence, warmth and sense of humor. Drew began his life’s leadership role with a stint in the RCAF where he served as a pilot officer ( 1941-1945). He was attached to the RAF in Coastal Command in the European and Mediterranean theatres. Upon his return to Canada, following his war experience he attended McGill University where he earned a B.Com in Economics. After achieving his C.A. at Clarkson Gordon in Montreal he moved to Canadian Marconi Co ( Montreal ) and subsequently to the Molson Company in Toronto as Chief Financial Officer. He was also Chairman of Canadian Foundation Co. and later became President and CEO of North American Life Assurance Co. At 65, when most were thinking of retirement , Drew took on his greatest challenge as Chairman and CEO of Scotts Hospitality. His many business directorships included : Molson, Toromont Industries, CIGL Holdings, Capel-Cure Meyers Capital Management Ltd ( London, England ), Wendy’s International, Global Government Plus Fund (Bermuda). He was a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Quebec and Ontario, Financial Executives Institute ( Past President of Montreal Chapter) and proudly served as a director of Tim Horton Children’s Foundation. His time as member and past President of the Goodwood Club also gave him great pleasure. An avid sailor (RCYC), an expert marksman and keen angler, Drew was a man of many talents as his landscape painting and carpentry skills proved. He loved and was loved by his many spaniel companions over the years. The family would like to thank Drew’s family physician, Dr. Mary Beth Bourne, O.T. Maria Borczyk, the palliative team at Southlake Regional Health Centre and a special care giver Paulette, for their care and support during a difficult time. Visitation will be held at Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora, ON., (905) 727-5421, on Monday, June 2 from 11:00 am until the memorial service at 12pm. If desired, memorial donations to Southlake Regional Health Centre Foundation, Palliative Unit or The Salvation Army would be appreciated.
