Dave was a longtime friend, fellow member of the ROMEO club and although I never worked directly with Dave as we both were members of York Regional Police, I am well aware that he was a dedicated and appreciated police officer.  Although Dave can no no longer be with us, we, the members of ROMEO have kept Pat, Dave's wife involved with us as a guest of the ROMEO annual "Special Ladies Lunches each August and December.  Miss you Dave and hope that now that you are free from pain and suffering that you are now resting in eternal peace.

Dearest Pat and family,
We were fortunate enough to meet Dave and Pat while my mom had been at Southlake Hospital in the Rehabilitation Unit for many months.  Dave always cheerful and happy always had a smile usually a cup of coffee and was always so willing to help my elderly mom. He encouraged her he kept her positive and he was a wonderful friend. Pat you and Dave really helped us get through such a trying time at that hospital. We will never forget the both of you. We send our love and prayers to you and your family at this difficult time we are sorry we're so late and receiving this news.

My husband and I met Dave & Pat at Southlake Hospital last year. We so enjoyed their company at a difficult time. Looked forward to seeing them Every day or so and have kept in touch. 
We are truly sorry to hear of the passing of such a great guy, everyone he met there enjoyed his company and wit.  He was a  favourite among staff and residents. 
Our hearts grieve with Pat and family at this sad time.  Wish we had had more time but appreciate the experience of getting to know this delightful couple. 

I met Dave in 2012  at the Aurora Legion when I started playing darts. I found him to be such a funny and caring person. He would chalk my games and we would share laughs together. Later he would occasionally pop in to see the dart players and have a chat. So sad that we all have lost this treasure. Love and Respect for a beautiful soul. 

Rest In Peace, Animal.  I will miss our short visits when we got to the GTA. I will miss your loving text to make sure we arrived home safe and sound. But most of all...I will miss how you never called me by my given name. Love and hugs to Aunt Pat and the boys. Forever your Bandit

Dave was a popular guy when he transferred to ODSS in 1966.  We came up with the idea of making star-shaped paper badges, like in the cowboy movies, with “Marshall” on it to promote him to be elected Student Council VP in his first year at the school and of course, he won. 
Later, Dave invited me to share a couple of beers from a case that he had found abandoned in a snow drift near the Anglers’ and Hunter’ Club.   We had walked miles from Orangeville, it was minus 20 and we were under-aged, sitting in a snowbank, starring up at the cold, cloudless blue sky and drinking free brew with ice-crystals in it.  It was the best bottle of beer I have ever had in my life, if only because it was with Dave.  Thanks for the memory.

Definitely remember both he and Bill Davis making us proud at winning the WPFG's back in the day at darts in Australia ! ( Thank you YRPA for supporting them then and now.

I had the privilege of Emm-Cee'ing his retirement party. It was a good roast of Dave.  He is certainly a legend at YRP.  

Lots of great tributes to the man are being posted and I hope many more post their tributes.

My condolences to Pat and family. Dave was one of the first people I met when I started with YRP in  1987 in comm. He was fun to work with and always had a smile on his face.   I  too remember the  incident with the stolen police car. I believe he even got the guy to fill it up with gas before he brought it back. RIP Dave 

Condolences to the Marshall family. I crossed paths with Dave many times over our years at YRP. I always considered him one of the respected and solid members of YRP.  I  met with Dave at South  Lake since he had reached out to me. He wanted pointers on dealing with his leg amputation, since we were both amputees. Despite his challenges, Dave was in good spirits and was working on his recovery.   

I have known Dave , for a good number of years. He was an excellent Police officer and good friend.  I don't know when it started but every time Dave and I met one would say Merry Christmas and the other would say Happy New Year. He will be missed , RIP Dave  and Merry Christmas your friend Coop.

 I first met Dave when his Dad was one of my Flying instructors in Orangeville about 1969. I met him a few times in different places after that and then in 1975 I reported for my first shift at 19 Div. and saw Dave sitting at a desk in a back corner in old clothes. Of course I thought some thing totally different than what was actually happening there.  I later worked with Dave on various occasions during my time at YRP, a great guy to work with. Most recently when I joined the retirees Association in 2014 we met again.  Dave will be missed.

There was a night shift when a ne'er do well took charge of a police car, and Dave was in Communications. That fella wanted to run, but Dave pulled him back, and by voice, Dave got him to come back and surrender. I was working that night, and I heard the whole thing. I was lucky enough to work with him at 3 dist. There  will never be another Dave Marshall.  Like most cops, he has seen and done things that most of the world would never know.  Feel not sad, his life was full.  

Chris and I would like express our deepest condolences..  Dave was always a good friend. I don’t know where to begin with the memories however my daughter reminded me tonight of going to his backyard to cut tomatoes and onions for the YRP family barbecue and the the next day standing over the grills cooking together...it was a lot of work but wonderful times that we both seemed to enjoy..

Met Dave when he answered a police call for a car accident in 1985.  Days  later when I went to a garage sale to my sisters friends house... the house belonged to Dave and Pat, lo and behold the officer at my car accident  .  Dave was a funny guy, we met several times after that at my sister Kathleen and Don’s  house.  Rest In Peace Dave, you will be missed
