R.I.P Donny Dekker 11/30/1988-09/16/12. 
1 year has passed, but he still remains in our thoughts, memories, and hearts. 
Donny was a genuine and loyal friend who has been, and will continue to be greatly missed in my life. True friends are hard to find, and I feel very thankful I had the honour of having him as one of mine. I have many memories to cherish and I will never forget the experiences we shared together. Dearest Dekker and Polhamus families, 

My name is Malin Holmquist and I grew up nextdoor to Dot and Merritt. We lived on Fairchild and shared a fence between our backyards. I was remembering old times spent in the neighbourhood and came to think of that cute little guy named Donny that always used to jump the fence and come hang out with us in our yard. I remember him as being sweet and very chatty and quite eloquent beyond his young years. He was a pretty funny little guy and I was always so happy to hear his cheerful little hello through the fence. I don't quite know why he popped into my head the other day after so many years but I was glad he did because I remember him very fondly. After searching about him I was saddened to learn of his passing. He passed so young but it's clear he used his short time on this earth in the very best way - by sharing his kindness with so many. Even as a young boy one could see he was a very special and rare person. I'm thankful to have him be a part of my fondest memories of home.

In my short time knowing Don, I discovered him to be a kind man who was incredibly generous with his time.
I'll never forget his professional contributions and short personal friendship.
I was absolutely shocked to discover his passing, and I send nothing but my deepest condolences.

I am sorry for your loss. I didn't know Don personally but he was a well liked member of our online community. I would have liked to have met Don.

I am so saddened and shocked by the death of Donny. We were away when he passed and just found out. I am so very sorry for your loss.
Donny and I go way back. I taught him at Regency and he was always a very special  to me. He had a good heart. He was sensitive and sweet. A gentle giant. He loved Harry Potter so much. It was his love of those books that made him work hard to get his reading and writing skills up to the rest of the group. He loved his family and often spoke of his grandparents and his two little brothers.
My husband and I were just speaking to him recently at the Sunday night Classic Car show at the Aurora Canadian Tire. I had not seen him for a few years but he gave me a warm hug and we talked about his Volkswagon, his life and his grandparents. I just can't believe he is gone. So young...just so young. I will always remember him because he touched our lives in a special way. I will miss your smile.

Don was a great friend of ours. One of those rare ones that would drop everything in your time of need to help. Its been hard accepting that you are no longer with us. We are filled with such sadness to lose such a wonderful person in our lives. Donny was my first born son. He was a very special person who always had a smile on his face. He was a great son with a big heart. A piece of me died with him the other night, and a new piece is growing big and strong from all the love and support you have all given us. I am overwhelmed by the love and support. I will miss him so much.

No words can describe the loss felt by Donny's passing. I will always remember him as the special person he was, and a true and loyal friend. We experienced many great times together, filled with fun, friends and laughter. I will cherish these memories, always. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this very sad time.  We only got to enjoy small amounts of time with Donny but, every time we did connect - Donny  always had welcoming smiles and was wonderful company, we will cherish that time forever. As everyone else, I was truly saddened to learn of Donny's passing.  I know it wasn't until recent, that Donny and I were able to connect again  -  but, I will truly miss my son and will cherish his memories.

We may never understand why Donny left this earth so soon, or why he left before we were ready to say good-bye.  But little by little, we begin to remember not just that he died, but that he lived and when someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.  Donny will truly be missed, but he'll always remain in our hearts and memories.
