Don worked at CNR railway for 42 years before retiring in 1989 that’s when the fun started. Don and Vera travelled the world to places like Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Spain and England to name a few. For 2 people who had developed motion sickness you would never expect them to board a ship ... but they did many times... Including a 20 and a 30-day European cruise and several Riverboat Cruises.
As the years passed, they became more comfortable spending winter months in Florida surrounded by friends and family. When the drive became too much to Florida they turned their attention to their new Paradise - Barbados. They spent many years travelling there and would meet up with the same friends yearly. Sadly there last trip was 2018 but they still carry the memories of "The Club" with them.
When he was not travelling, Don threw himself into his love of acting as a Life Long Member of Theatre Aurora, gardening, cooking and his love of Opera. He enjoyed watching the tennis on TV and his beloved Blue Jays.
He was an active member of St Andrews Presbyterian Church in Aurora and on any given Sunday, you could hear Don's booming voice singing the hymns
His other joy was playing a white bearded red suited gentleman at Christmas. For many years after his retirement he took his roadshow to Upper Canada Mall and Hillcrest Mall and was the main attraction on the last float coming down Yonge Street in November.. He loved his job.
Due to pandemic restrictions, a Private Family service will occur but there will be no visitation or funeral service at this time.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St Andrews Presbyterian Church Aurora Ontario or to Southlake Regional Health Centre
