December 4, 1927 - April 23, 2017
Newmarket, Ontario
May was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland to Ernest Porter Bennett and Annie Florence Bennett (nee Leslie), and immigrated to Canada, in 1955. Loving and committed wife of Thomas James Dalton Hill (1925-1985). Loving Sister to Margaret Ellis and George Bennett, and predeceased by siblings Ernie, Tom, Vera, Queenie, Georgina, Anne and Ethel. Dedicated Mother to Tom and George Hill, (predeceased by Irene Hill) and mother-in-law to Lorie Butkus-Hill. Will be fondly remembered by Granddaughter Sarah Hamacher (nee Hill) and Grandson Kyle Hill. Recent great Grandmother of Jaysa May Hamacher.
May enjoyed many years at the cottage on Steenburg Lake with family and friends, leaving her cottage as her legacy. May and Tom (a Carpenter by trade) dedicated many hours and craftsmanship to the building of the cottage (twice!). The cottage will always be her peaceful place. May enjoyed an early retirement (from Oldspice) to care for her children and her grandchildren. The taste of her Irish “Soda Bread” with Lemon curd will never be forgotten, as it was devoured by many, many people. May will be greatly missed by friends and family, and will be kept close to our hearts always.
“Those we love don’t go away,
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, missed and always dear”
Those who desire to make a memorial donation, can give to Southlake Regional Health Centre (Foundation) in her honour, where she always received exemplary care.
