There's a small, rugged, beautiful little island nation on the very tip of Nova Scotia, Cape Breton it's called. If you really want to learn about a place you learn about it through it's people and Cape Bretoners are a living history lesson. They're a warm, hospitable friendly people but they're also as rugged as the bones of the earth their island is made from. They live hard and they play hard. George was no exception to that but he was also, as the ribbon said, a Loving Father. A family man who lived his vocation as a husband and father fully, but he saw more tragedy than most people could  bear. The loss of his son Colin, his wife of over 50 years Aggie and just last year his daughter Mary. I will always be grateful to George for the gift of his daughter Mary's hand in marriage. 

George bore his burden with a simple, quiet, grace and dignity that only a true native son of Cape Breton could, but I think we all know that deep inside where we couldn't see, he had to be suffering unimaginable pain and grief. No one should lose two children and a spouse in their lifetime. That's a part of  George Pyke we knew, but there was another George Pyke we knew long years ago, before tragedy and ill health struck, the fun loving George Pyke and right now he's sitting in the kitchen of our Fathers mansion and there's a heavenly hootenany going on folks. George on guitar and vocals, Colin on drums, Buddy on spoons and Aggie, Mary and the Angels singing backup. That's the George Pyke I choose to remember and I know his sorrow is gone forever and it's been replaced with joy beyond measure. I hope that's the George Pyke everyone remembers in time.

Uncle George was one of the kindest, gentlest souls I've ever met.  My sincere condolences to Debbie, Joanne and family on your loss.  Love, Wilma

To all uncle Georges family my deepest sympathy. He was my father Johns young brother.I remember him playing the guitar in his room while I was at my grandparents home All the Pykes are and were a gentle folk. I am proud to be one of them. So sorry for your loss. We have great memory of when Joanne and Mary & Johnny took Uncle George to Cape Breton for a visit. My Dad loved his time with George and it was great to see the two of them talk about old times in Glace Bay and all the people they rememberer from there childhood. I was so pleased to be able to be apart of that and see the sparkle in his eyes and he thought about his youth and sharing those memories with my Dad. ...... sending lots of love and hugs your way.
