1930-2012
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Jock after a very brave battle with Parkinson’s disease at Southlake Village in Newmarket on Sunday, February 5 2012.
Jock always had a way of making people laugh with his larger than life personality. He will be sadly missed by daughters Heidi von Karstedt and Angela von Karstedt Jones as well as his four grandchildren Alexandra and Jamie von Karstedt as well as Meghan and Brendan Jones.
He is pre-deceased by his wife Jean George and daughter Kelly von Karstedt.
Jock was born in Wismar, Germany; where he was raised by his parents Wilhelm Albrecht von Karstedt and Maxamiliane von Karstedt with his sister Ingrid 'Netti Windscheid'.
In 1952, Jock emigrated to Canada, his adopted homeland, here he became a prominent business man. Jock spent many years working for Volkswagen. He was one of the pioneers of contributing to the success of Volkswagen in Canada. In his later years, Jock and his wife Jean, settled in Golden Lake Ontario, where they spent the majority of their retirement years.
You couldn't keep Jock down, so he continued working by building and selling cedar log homes.
During the last few years of Jock's dynamic life, he wrote a book entitled: Canada, My Adopted Homeland.
Visitation will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora, 905-727-5421 on Thursday February 9, 2012 from 9:30am to 10:30am. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady Of Grace Church, 15347 Yonge Street, Aurora, following visitation at 11:00 am.
A special thank you to all the staff at Southlake Village for their excellent help.
In Jock’s memory donations to the Parkinson’s Society would be appreciated.
