We are heartbroken at the loss of Julie on Mother’s Day 2024. She didn’t want to leave her family and gave everything possible to stay, but after a fierce battle it was time for our beautiful Julie to rest. She passed away at her Lakehouse surrounded by the love of her family.
Julie is survived by her loving husband of nearly 56 years, Michael Speller, and their 5 daughters, Leanne Speller (Claudio), Karen Spear (Eric), Amanda Speller (Michael), Jacqueline Speller (Ian), Ashley Speller (Alan) and her brother William (Russell) Roelink. She was the proud Nana of Chloe, Abbey, Cole, Makhai, Everett, Willow, Koah, Ruby, Scottie and Rocky and a great-grandchild Matilda. She will also be missed by her family in England and many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind cherished memories that will last forever in the hearts of those who knew her.
Born in England, Julie went to school, made many friends and had a wonderful family life with her loving parents (Freda and Russell (Rocky) Roelink deceased) and her brother. She met her Michael in England and together with Julie’s parents and brother made the brave move to Canada.
Julie and Michael were married in Canada. Julie made all the houses they built together beautiful homes for their girls. She made every day better and every celebration magical. She was an inspiration – so strong and brave, yet had such a selfless, generous, kind, loving soul that family and friends found unwavering. Her smile would light up a room.
Julie enjoyed tennis and joined the Timberlane Tennis Club playing many games/ tournaments with ladies that all became friends. She loved seeking out new lunch spots every week with her dear friend Janice. She also liked swimming and spending time in the garden. Many family recipes have been shared, to recreate the meals and baked treats she would spoil everyone with. Julie was so proud of her family. She was always there to listen and made one feel loved and so very special. She spent many winters in one of her favourite places, Naples, Florida, with family and friends. Julie loved her Lakehouse and found in the gardens and ever changing water a constant joy and comfort. We were lucky to be able to share that time with her.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the medical teams at Southlake, Sunnybrook radiology and Bayshore for the kindness and compassion they extended. We especially want to thank the nurse Julie referred to as “My Tina” for the special connection they shared.
Where do we begin to tell how great a love can be? We will always feel the love that Julie/ Mom radiated and she will live forever in the hearts of those who loved her so much. Her light will always shine brightly in our lives.
A celebration of life for Julie will be held Thursday, May 23, 2024 from 3:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora, ON L4G 6W8.
