Kevin Douglas “Zephyr” Pluim, an amazing man, age 62 of Toronto, escaped this spinning rock on Monday morning, June 25th, 2018. Kevin left behind 48 bottles of liquor, 38 bottles of wine and multitudes of other random items that would prove helpful in the event of an impromptu gathering of friends and family who will miss him dearly.
Kevin was born to Albert and Betty Pluim on April 22nd, 1956, in Edmonton, Alberta. Kevin was the 2nd of four -older sister Linda (Brian) Duffy and younger brothers Lee (Betty) and Richard Pluim.
In 1991, “Zephyr” took the plunge and got hitched to the love of his life, Heather Johnson (Heather and Kevin make “Heaven”). They always felt incredibly “lucky” to spend as many “special” moments together as they could.
Kevin will be deeply missed and loved by his son, Johnlee (Theresa) Raine and grandchild Jackson, who adoringly called him Dado.
Kevin was a smart, curious person (in so many ways) and he loved to learn. His zest for life long learning enabled him to collect a gambit of professional trades and certificates such as turd herder, pipe fitter to A/C refrigeration mechanic.
He worked in Bell Canada buildings through various subsidiaries for 22 years of overly-dedicated service, where he accumulated stories, friends and colleagues that all loved him. He ruthlessly judged all meetings by how good the snacks were.
‘Pluimage’ was a renowned collector of adjustable wrenches (11 found so far), and amazing eclectic music that had been the soundtrack of his life, and everyone else’s who loved him.
He enjoyed just about everything in life, including: meeting people and making friends everywhere he went, no matter their age, gender or culture; shooting hordes of aliens in HALO; cooking up a storm and spinning buns galore; being active, enjoying Glosette peanuts, a generous shot of bourbon, cold beer or free beer; handing out @VeryGoodEggs cards for any deserving soul; traveling, windsurfing and fireworks; learning Spanish, for the heck of it; taking Meyer for long walks on the beach and most of all, spending time with family and friends.
The family would love to express tremendous and heartfelt thanks to the truly exceptional staff at Princess Margaret Hospital Mesothelioma Team and Palliative Care Unit, who provided not only exceptional care for Kevin, but also a peaceful and compassionate environment prior to his departure from this planet.
Family, friends (and #GoodEgg s) are invited to celebrate “Skinny-toes” Kevin on Saturday, June 30th, from 1pm to 4pm with remarks/tribute around 3pm, at 4034, 4th Line, Bradford Ontario. This is an outdoor venue so feel free to wear your shorts and bring your own lawn chair, #WhateverTheWeather.
Memorial donations in Kevin’s name can be made to your favorite charity or to your favorite local establishment in order to buy yourself a cold drink in his honour.
Kevin recently told a friend that one day someone was going to write a book about his life. We want to make it happen!
If you have spent any amount of time with Kevin you probably have a great story to share about him. Please send a story and include an approximate date and your name and relationship to Kevin.
We would love to include your story into the Book of Kevin.
