Oda was a strong and wonderful woman. She became my bonus grandmother when I married her grandson, Lucas. She always welcomed me for a visit. She and I shared a love of making things; I have many precious memories of her teaching me to make quilted stockings for the grandchildren. She gifted us with one of the beautiful quilts she hand-made. She was an artist, she painted as well as crafted. She told me the story of attending art classes at Georgian College after her kids were grown. 
Her main career was as a farmer’s wife, which meant she made sure the farm was doing ok, looked after her husband and children, managed the family garden, kept house and cooked for a crowd every night! She knew how to work hard! 
She  was always reading, talking to others and keeping on top of the news. She cared about the world we lived in and making it a better place.
Most of all she was a loving person who was deeply dedicated to family.  She was great-grandmother to my children and this was a gift to all of them.

My family owes it's existence to  Aunt Oda as it was because of her matchmaking that Lillian met Herluf!  We spent many happy times with Oda and Ted, at their farm, at the cottage on Lake Simcoe, in Daytona Beach and in Denmark.  She was the memory of our family and the person I went to when I wanted to know what exactly had happened in the past.  I will miss her.   Richard Krogh

 I knew Oda from the Hong Kong Veterans Commemorative Association reunions. She was a lovely lady and I enjoyed spending time with her.  May she rest in peace.

Dear Aunt Oda, you're one of the strongest women I've ever known... feisty and opinionated and never suffering fools, but always below that crustier outside surface, kind and thoughtful and deeply loyal... To my cousins, Kate, John, Mary Ellen, Dave - and Heavenly Rose - and your families - I hope you'll remember her strength and art and grace, for she was truly one of a kind. Traveller, artist, wife, mother, sister, friend and beloved aunt and so much more. I'll never forget the day she called me, completely out of the blue, and asked me if I wanted her father's sleigh that he'd used to deliver milk... Of course I mumbled a shocked, 'Yes'... But then came the stern warning... 'Well, if you want it, you better get here today, because it's in the barn and the auction is here tomorrow and it will be gone...' I hung up the phone with my marching orders, and quickly organized care for my newborn son, so I could drive from Erin to the farm where I collected that beautiful sleigh. I still have no idea why she ever thought of gifting it to me, but she started me on a path that day of collecting beautiful antique sleighs - some older, some newer, all historic treasures, but NONE as treasured as the very one Axel Berg built, and then used, to delivered his milk on every day in the wilds of New Denmark, New Brunswick... Thank you, dear Aunt Oda, for gifting me that family heirloom that is so treasured...  Safe passage and please give Uncle Ted my love - you're two of the best people I've ever had the joy of knowing... XOXO

I had the privilege and honor of caring for Oda for the last year and a half.  I enjoyed very minute i was with her, even when she wasn't very happy with me. Oda shared so many stories with me, and we had a lot of afternoon teas together.  We chatted every night before she went to sleep about our day together, that practiced helped her clear her mind and she slept better when we practiced that. I thank God that he took her home before she lingered on and on.  Oda and I prayed about that many times before she went to sleep.  However, even at 102, she will leave a 'void' in a lot of lives.....she was a wife, a mother, a grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend and touched many many lives in those 102 years and will be missed.  My sincerest condolences to all who will miss her, but know that she had a strong faith, she shared that with me more than once and we can draw comfort from knowing that she believed in Jesus and now rests very peacefully in His arms.
