It is with profound sadness that we announce that our precious mother, grandmother and friend to all, Rebecca (Becky) Haggith, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, in her 81st year. Mom is now reunited with Dad and is survived by her beloved sons and their families: David (Koriena), Scott (Katie) and Stephen (Gina). Grandma adored her grandchildren, Christian, Luke, Charlotte and Andrew and loved to share stories of their accomplishments with friends. Also mourning Mom’s passing are sister Mary Kay, sisters-in-law Viola and Irma, many nieces and nephews and countless dear friends. She would have wished for more time with her family, but we are grateful that she is free from the pain she endured these past months.
Mom was proud to be born on a farm in Southwestern Ontario and attended a one-room school. She was raised with community values, friendships and activities such as 4-H and Junior Farmers. She maintained many friendships from her childhood on the farm to this day and enjoyed every opportunity to go home.
Education and community were the cornerstones of Mom’s life. After graduating from the University of Western Ontario, Becky became a high school teacher and active community member, on top of being the most loving and supportive mother that her three sons could have asked for. She treasured the many friendships that were developed by raising a family in King City as well as a pace of life then that allowed more time spent with friends and loved ones. After moving to Aurora to be closer to family after Dad’s passing in 2016, Mom enjoyed meeting countless new friends to share life with, in addition to her many lifelong friends, and enjoyed times of fun and travel together as well as providing support for one another. Becky was a proud past president of the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) Aurora/Newmarket chapter and benefitted from the education, activities and companionship associated with the organization’s work in the community. We will always be thankful for her many friendships that enriched Mom’s life right to the end.
Our family is grateful to Dr. Kassam, Dr. Chia and the staff at Southlake Regional Health Centre, as well as to Michelle, Erwin and the team at HosPall Homecare for their loving care in Mom’s final days.
In keeping with Mom’s wishes, a private cremation has taken place and will be followed by an opportunity to celebrate her life with friends in Aurora on Saturday, June 14 from 2-5 p.m. Please contact family members for celebration of life details.
Mom’s final wish was that in lieu of flowers or donations, you would please smile when you remember her and pass along kindness to someone who could use a lift.
John 15:13 “A mother’s love is a giving love; many are the sacrifices of a mother throughout her life for others.”
Proverbs 31:31 “Honour her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.”
