Dear Isabelle and family,

It is of great sadness that we heard from George the Chaplin at York Central Hospital that your husband/father had passed. We are so sorry for only hearing about this today and wish that perhaps some of us could have come to his service had we known. Your husband/father was a wonderful man that most nurses adored on palliative care at YCH.(thought you might get a chuckle at this comment) We feel it was an honour to nurse him and watch his desire and determination, to go home and live several months with his wife/mom. Our thoughts are with you all at this most difficult time. We must believe that Bob is drinking his Tim Hortons, smacking on his juicy fruit gum, and having a wee nip. We hope you find peace with many wonderful memories and this brings your hearts filling with laughter versus sorrow.

Alex and I had the privilege of being your friends for 52 years.  We knew you both before you were even engaged.  Through the  years we had many happy times together.  Although in the latter years time and distance kept us apart the memories and the love we share for each other will last forever.

The last time we saw Bob he had invited us for a visit to their new condo. He said, "Come over on Tuesday afternoon, because that's the day the lady comes in the morning to give me a bath and I'll smell nice for you." And so we went and we saw a difference in him, but on a whole he was still his old fiesty self. We had a nice visit.
But that's not the memory we want to have of Bob. As the song goes :-

What's too painful to remember,
We simply choose to forget,
It's the laughter, we will remember,
When ever we remember, the way we were.

The photos we saw at the funeral parlour today reminded us of those memories.

The lobster parties in your back yard.
The New Year's Eves at the Red Oak Inn.
The Saturday nights at the Legion.
The Ortho's Christmas dances.
The houseboats on the Kawartha Lakes.
The skinny dipping in Jean and Alf's pool.
