As we approach the day that you left us a year ago.  We begin to reflect on, not only memories of when you were once with us,  but how you have kept an influence on us after you were gone. There are times when I would cry thinking of the times we had. Also I have feelings of rejoice for the love we shared. I will never forget you and it just doesn't feel the same around the holidays with out the grandad of the family. Don't worry ill keep the spirits high this year.

Dear Dad:
Well, it's been a year since you left us to answer God's call.  Your passing has been profoundly unbearable, and has left us all with a very deep and tender hole in our hearts.  It is still something that we all have difficulty accepting and do not want to let go.  We all ache for this to be just a horrible dream.  In some way it eases our hearts to know that God needed you for a very important role in Heaven, guiding the souls of the lost and downtrodden, and watching over your family and the many people who had the chance to know you here in the physical world.   We pray that you felt no pain, just comfort and happiness in your crossing, and that once your teachings with God are done, you will receive your angel wings and be free to touch each one of us, and guide us through our pain and sadness.  While you were here with us, you touched so many with your kind heart, strong convictions, and admirable wealth of knowledge.  You blessed our family with your complete and unconditional love.  You saw more than the average person sees in this life by fulfilling your dreams, and your life gave us more than we could have, or should have expected.  Including the wonderful stories you were always so proud to tell, and we loved to hear.  We were all, without question or condition, so proud to say that you were ours.  You should know how many times in life I, personally, was told by someone, just how lucky I was to have a Father like you (and all of knew we were).  
Mom has endured a profound loss.  She has lost her “Joy” and is struggling to get some semblance of that joy back in her life.  But, Mom is strong in her faith, and we are all here for her.  Of course, as you can imagine, there is nothing that can replace a true soul mate and life- long partner.  But, with your help and God's guidance, we will do our utmost to lighten her struggle and help her find her “Joy” anew, as best we can.  It gives us some comfort knowing that you were chosen by God for his purposes.  We all had you in our lives, now it is time to share you with him.    
Amanda, Cengiz, Andrew, Canel, Jordan, Elizabeth, Robert, Joshua, and Nathan struggle with your loss also.  The love and respect they all had for you will never falter.  Your presence in their lives has made a profound impact on them.  There was never a time in their lives that you failed show unconditional love and instill strong family values in each one of them.   You will always be spoken of lovingly when they are all grown and are passing along their family stories to their children at the dinner table.
Dad, you will never leave our hearts and remain always a part of each of our individual souls.  We will have to accept that you are now the “commander” of a squadron of angels, and you have a big job to do in Heaven, but we know you will find time from you're angel duties to watch over Mom, just  as you were always there for her when you were with us.

P.,S.  Dad, as a few weeks have passed since this letter was first started.  We want to let you know that Mom's struggles have lightened a little.  (Perhaps you had something to do with that.)  To hear her laugh out loud while watching 2 ½ Men is an amazing sound to hear and it eases our pain to watch her move forward in that way.  She is smiling more and starting to get some of her strength back.  The strength we all knew she had.  Her life will forever be changed, but you would be proud of her for bravely finding a way to cope with her pain.  She sets your picture up the mantel so that you can see the different TV programs you loved to watch.  It's so nice to watch her do things like that.  Oh yea, and she has become pretty tech savvy with the computer (with Adam's help), and your iPhone also.  But, we are sure you are there in everything she does, so you probably already aware of these things, and we just want to express how much it raises our spirits to watch her progress.

Grandad, 
Though it does not seem to be, almost a year has past since you left us. Everyday I think of you and wish you where still here. Somedays I realize more then others the true reality of losing you and I fall apart. You truly held us together and were our rock. I find myself every once and awhile asking myself what you would do in some situations and try to do it but GD only you can do what you did. Things will never be the same without you but we are all doing our best to carry on. Please feel free to come visit anytime :) Can't wait to see you again. Love you forever GD. Xoxoxoxoxoxoxo

I wanted to call you today to say I love you, but your old number is no longer in service. I tried the operator she said 'sorry I have no number for you'. I tried to go to your house, but you don't live there anymore. The post office has no forwarding address. I guess heaven is just too far away. I Love You, I Miss You. You are in my heart always. Grandad, its coming up on 1 month since you pulled back on the stick. I expect to see your smiling face everytime we come up to your house. Everything is good at the house so don't worry. The girls are keeping Nanny great company and are being strong, like Nanny, like you have brought them up to be. I hope your flight has been great and you get to play amoungst the stars. When we go camping next year we will light a lantern and send it off for you.

It was an honor to have cared for such an amazing individual.  In the few short weeks we had Mr. Rogers on our unit (MSICU), he was able to touch many of our hearts.  I personally will never forget the small stories he shared about his flying days, especially of how he would fly over his home and 'wave' to his wife while she waved back with her white sheet.  My thoughts and condolences to the wonderful family.

Mr R...I will always remember the good times.  Your Navy songs always got better and better after a few Scotch.

Grandad, 1st I want to let you know that the back light still works. Just 3 weeks ago we installed it. I will always remember that day as you and I drove to Home Depot to get it. It was funny as you showed me all the back routes to your favorite store to avoid the traffic. Grandad, I am sad because life is short and I did not get to go to the East Coast with you like I always wantd to, but I realized that there was many places I did. Those memories I will hold forever. You have a great family, a beautiful wife and four great daughters. One I have been fortunate enough to spend a life with. In your honor, we will all move together. Love Paul

Mr.R....wonderful family times we spent together as we started out as neighbours on Murray and this continued....give my mom and dad a hug....and just know you were the best...
