Shirley passed away peacefully at Chartwell Aurora surrounded by her loving family on December 1, 2022. Born on April 1, 1926 to George and Corina Wolfe, she was the third of five sisters. Shirley was raised in the Melancthon Railroad Station house, north of Shelburne.
Ever the eternal optimist, Shirley’s glass wasn’t half full, it was overflowing!! Mom saw the best in everybody. Her beautiful smile, sparkling eyes, sharp wit and wonderful sense of humour will be missed by all who knew her.
Family was everything to Shirley and she was so proud of her 5 children and their spouses, 16 grandchildren and their spouses and 13 great grandchildren. Mom cherished every accomplishment and couldn’t wait to share the news with everyone she saw.
Mom enjoyed her beloved Toronto Blue Jays, all things butterflies and of course Christmas. Shirley always had her tree up early in November. Mom just loved the holiday spirit and wanted our home to reflect that feeling.
One great accomplishment of Mom’s was her lovely flower shop “Flowers by Shirley J” in Agincourt. Mom was well known for the beautiful arrangements and the caring touch that went into every order.
Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years Tom Cook, her grandson Adam Wood and her daughter-in-law Brenda Cook as well as her sisters Irene and Pauline. Shirley is survived by her children; daughters, Cori Phillips (Stephen), Betty Phelan (Dan), Paula Wood (Tom), sons Tom (Brenda) and Brad (Elaina), 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren as well as her sisters Betty and Marie.
The family want to especially thank the staff at Chartwell Aurora for the incredible care they gave Mom. As a resident of Chartwell Aurora since 2009, Shirley volunteered to welcome new residents as part of the "Howdy Do" crew and helped whenever possible at every special event. Shirley was recognized by the Town of Aurora for her volunteer efforts at Chartwell Aurora being awarded the "Good Neighbour Award" for 2018.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Shirley’s remarkable life on December 8, 2022 between 1 pm and 3 pm at Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora. Phone (905) 727-5421.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ThompsonFH-Aurora.com for the Cook family.
