

Addie Mae Stewart, age 97, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2025, in Austin, Texas. Born on August 1, 1927, in Craft Prairie, Texas to Charles and Rosie Lee. She lived a long and meaningful life marked by dedication to her family, faith, and community.
A proud graduate of Emile High School, Addie Mae distinguished herself early on as the class valedictorian—a testament to her intelligence and determination. She carried that same spirit into her professional life, dedicating 20 years to serving others at Travis State School, where she worked with mental health patients before retiring, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and commitment.
Faith was the foundation of Addie Mae’s life. Baptized at a young age as part of the Primitive Baptist Association, she later joined Rehoboth Baptist Church in 1962, where she remained a devoted member. Her contributions to the church were many, she was a faithful congregate and a beloved member of the choir.
Addie was a proud member of the Stewart Singers, a beloved local band known for their soulful harmonies and uplifting performances. Their music reached the airwaves, and the group was regularly featured on local radio, bringing joy to listeners in the 1960’s.
Addie Mae found great joy in spending time with her grandson Donald Edward Thorne III. Whether watching sports together or simply enjoying each other’s company, those moments were among her most cherished. A lifelong sports enthusiast and passionate singer, she brought energy and warmth to every gathering.
Addie Mae Stewart is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Lee and Rosie Lee; siblings, Thomas C. Lee, Clemon Lee, James H. Lee.
She is survived by and lovingly remembered by her daughter Rosemary Thorne (Donald Edward Thorne Jr.), as well as her grandson Donald Edward Thorne III (Nakisha) ; her sister Esther Fay Chase.
Addie Mae Stewart’s life was a testament to her faith—marked by selfless service to her family, her community, and all those God placed in her path. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who know her. May her legacy bring comfort and inspiration to those she leaves behind.
