Adriana Ybarra passed away in the early hours of Saturday, September 27, at The Christopher House in Austin at the age of 32 after a hard-fought battle with breast cancer. Adriana was born February 12, 1982, in Austin, Texas, and lived most of her life in the Central Texas area.
Adriana knew much pain and suffering in her early years, but she was determined not to be defined by her past but, rather, by what she could make of her future. Her strength and toughness were an inspiration to all who her knew and loved her.
She finished high school in Elgin, Texas, and continued her education by attending Austin Community College part-time, while employed full-time by the Texas Senate. Her plan to transfer to Saint Edwards University last fall was suddenly ended with her diagnosis of breast cancer. She battled the cancer bravely and with ferocious determination, and when the cancer won, she accepted the outcome with the same strength and dignity and determination with which she had fought the cancer. She was the true winner.
Her greatest joy in her life was her precious children: twin daughters, Xaia and Riley; and son, Haven. She worked hard to provide for them and to teach them to set high goals for themselves. She took great pride in their accomplishments both as scholars and as athletes.
Though her life was cut much too short, she left to mourn her passing and to cherish her memory a loving family and a host of friends. She is survived by her children, Xaia, Riley, and Haven; her beloved brother, Javier Harris; her loving sister, Maricela Barrera; special friend and soulmate, Eric Mendoza; four nieces and one nephew; the Harris and Spaw families; and a host of true friends who unfailingly loved and cared for her.
A Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd.
