

Albert W. Bobo, 94, died of a brain tumor Saturday (Jan 8, 2005) at Heartland Health Care. Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Jan 15, 2005 at Weed-Corley-Fish located at 3125 Lamar in Austin, Texas. During his freshman year at Texas Christian University his mother was hit by a car. He quit school to support his younger brother Jack, who was still in high school and his mother. His father and mother were part of the original seven families who moved from Bedford, Tennessee to form the Bedford, Texas community. They owned a dairy farm on land that is now part of the Ft. Worth Zoo. He joined the Army in June of 1942 and was sent to Camp Lee, Virginia. While stationed at the base, he missed a ride and was unable to return to the base by curfew. A stranger, Fred Golding offered him a ride and a place to sleep. The next morning he met Fred's sisters and cousins. Emma was one of Fred's sisters. Emma and Al were married December 27, 1944. Albert was sent to the Philippines during WWII. He stayed in the Army reserves until he retired as a Lt. Col. in August 1962. After the war, Emma and Al moved to Dallas. After daughter Barbara's birth the family moved to Lubbock, Texas. Son Joseph arrived there. Eventually the family moved to Denver. Both children finished high school in Denver and graduated from Colorado colleges. Some years after retirement Al and Emma moved to Albuquerque and eventually followed their daughter to Austin. The church played a large role in the family. They were active members of First Christian Church in Lubbock TX, Lakewood Christian Church in Lakewood, CO and Los Altos Christian Church in Albuquerque, NM. After moving to the Summit at Lakeway in 2004, he continued to take part in services. He is preceded in death by his brother Jack Bobo, sister Cass Cannon, and wife Emma Golding Bobo. Survivors include children Barbara West of Austin, Joseph Bobo Of Seattle WA; grandchildren Bryan McNeill of Austin, Jeff Mcneill of Albuquerque NM, Michelle Bobo of Portland OR, and Michael Bobo of Seattle WA; great grandsons Alec and Evan McNeill of Albuquerque, NM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.
