

Albert Davis Gould Albert Davis Gould of Austin passed away on Friday, October 10, 2003. He was born on November 11, 1915, in Taylor, Texas to Dr. William Albert Gould and Pauline Davis Gould. Albert grew up on the family farm in Taylor riding his horse, tending to farm chores, and spending endless hours fishing and exploring the San Gabriel River. After graduating from Taylor High School he attended Texas A&M University and Southwestern University. In 1939 Albert established the Texas Lumber Company, only to join the U.S. Air Force in 1940, in which he served five years as a flight instructor in California and Texas. He became a Captain in 1942 and was honorably discharged at the end of World War II. On March 18, 1943, during his service in the Air Force, Albert married Frances Wynne Harrison. Upon returning to Austin in 1945, he went to work for R.E. Rawls Lumber Company where he was Vice-President and Manager of the companys seven Texas businesses. He was vice-president of the Texas Lumbermans Association and was instrumental in having the Lumbermans Association Building built on Lamar Blvd. at 25th Street. In 1968 he became a Vice-President at Austin National Bank where he was in the trust department and managed the bank building facilities and oversaw the construction of the Austin National Bank tower. He retired in 1982. Albert was a member of St. Davids Episcopal Church for fifty-eight years, serving on the Vestry from 1951 1953. While on the Vestry at St. Davids, at the request of Reverend Charles Sumners, Albert used his wonderful woodworking skills to build the alter and lectern for the Chapel at St. Davids Hospital, giving them in loving memory of his parents. In 1991 Albert was made an Honorary Emeritus Member of the Salvation Army Board where he had served for many years. The Salvation Army Adult Center on Cumberland Road was named in Alberts honor in 1972. Albert was a member of the Young Mens Business League, Kiwanis Club, and Austin Country Club and served on the Austin Planning Commission for four years. Albert was a great sportsman, loved fishing and hunting and will be remembered for sharing his love of the outdoors with others, his integrity, sense of humor, kindness to everyone, and a love of helping others less fortunate. An infant son, and his sister Polly Cornick, preceded him in death. Albert is survived by his wife Frances, daughter Bette Wynne Cook and her husband Laney Cook, son John Albert Gould and his wife Susan Gould, and five beloved grandchildren; Erin McCorquodale, Will Cook, Cile Cook, Harrison Gould and Clayton Gould. Nieces Sally Rahlves, Melissa Beltz, Jane Jamison and Ann Murphy, nephew Paul Harrison, and sister-in-law Rosemary Harrison also survive him. The burial service will be held Monday, October 13th at 2:00 p.m. at Austin Memorial Park with Jane Louis officiating.
