Alice Spillmann Becker went to be with our Lord on October 4, 2004 at the age of 93. Her life was a beautiful example of Christs love, and she will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. She was a sweet and gentle woman with sparkling eyes and a teasing, joyful spirit. Alice was born on July 17, 1911, in Austin, where she spent her childhood years. She attended the University of Texas at Austin, receiving a B.A. degree in English in 1933. On December 26, 1938, she married Ernst Becker and moved to New York City where they lived for one year. A very patient and kind woman, Alice spent several years after returning to Austin as a teacher at the Texas School for the Deaf. Following the birth of her two children she became a devoted stay-at-home wife and mother. During this time she was active in the American Association of University Women and her church, First English Lutheran. As her children matured and left home, Alice returned to work as a librarian for the Austin Public Library. After retirement she and her husband Ernst spent much of their time at their ranch near Oatmeal, TX. There both were active in the First Lutheran Church of Burnet where they had many beloved friends. Alice was preceded in death by her parents Henry Spillmann and Annie Radam Spillmann. She was also preceded in death by her husband Ernst, sisters Adele Dahlstrom, Eleanora Becker, Annie Lee Heimann, Donie Spillmann, and brother Henry Paul Spillmann. She is survived by daughter Elisabeth Horton and her husband Wendell, daughter Dr. Margaret Peters, grandson John Horton and wife Johauna and their children Jaclyn, Jayna, and Joseph; grandson Mike Horton and his wife Melissa and their daughter Mica; grandson Patrick Peters, and grandson Brian Ernst Peters, and several nieces and nephews.
