Alla was born on March 2, 1949, in Izium, Kharkiv region, Ukraine, which at that time was part of the Soviet Union. From her earliest years, she carried within her an adventurous spirit and an insatiable curiosity about the world. She loved the outdoors, challenged herself with new skills, and found joy in both sports and music. She played piano, competed in sailing, and nurtured a lifelong love of learning.
Alla dedicated much of her life to professional growth and education. She worked as an engineer for over two decades, later pursued and earned her doctorate degree in economics, and also obtained a law degree, building a respected career as a commercial attorney. She was known for her sharp mind, determination, and willingness to go against the grain — never afraid to break rules when it mattered.
Before retiring, Alla also taught political economics at Kyiv Polytechnic University. She authored many textbooks and found great joy in sharing her knowledge with students, always encouraging them to think deeply and independently. Teaching was one of her greatest passions, and she loved expanding her own knowledge alongside those she mentored.
Alla’s love for her homeland never faded. She held an enormous love for the independence of Ukraine, its culture and beautiful language. That deep pride was something she carried throughout her life and passed on to those who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Lesya; her beloved grandchildren, Vera and Constantine; her step-grandchildren, Christiane and Alexander; their father, Chris, and his wife, Sonia; as well as Bella, a young woman who became like a daughter to Lesya and who lovingly helped care for Alla during her final months. She is also survived by Lesya’s father, Volodymyr.
Alla’s presence filled every space with energy, laughter, and opinion — as she truly had one about everything. She lived fully, thought deeply, and loved fiercely. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered — not only for all that she accomplished, but for the way she lived: with curiosity, courage, and the determination to do things her own way.
A funeral service will be held on October 4, 2025, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, located at 414 St Stephens School Rd S, Austin, TX 78746.
