Amy Schreiber Barnard of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully at Christopher House on June 13, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on February 15, 1972, in Lake Forest, Illinois to parents Linda and Fred Schreiber. She attended schools in Lake Forest, graduating from Lake Forest High School in 1990. A member of the cheer squad, Amy was known for her contagious smile and would light up any room she entered. She always made those around her feel special and was inclusive of all.
Amy attended college at the University of Kansas then graduated with a degree in Accounting from Baret College in Lake Forest, Illinois, in 1995. After graduation, she joined the Chicago Board of Trade as an auditor in the Office of Investigations and Audits. An active member of the Junior League of Chicago, Amy met Jimmy Barnard at a JLC reception, and they began dating. They were married in Chicago in 1999, and thereafter she joined Jimmy in Texas where they made their home in Austin. She was hired as Director of Accounting at the University of Texas and worked there for many years.
Amy was very active in the community, serving as a member of the Junior League of Austin, Dell Children’s Trust, Elizabeth Ann Seton Board, and she taught Sunday School at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. She was a very giving person, always thinking of others first.
But Amy’s greatest role in life was being a mother to her three children, Jimmy, Janie, and Andy. She poured herself into their activities, attending sporting events, school functions, and scouting endeavors. She was a devoted mother and taught her children to see the best in people, and instilled in them that simple kindness can be life changing.
A lover of travel, Amy enjoyed hiking, snow-skiing, and spending time on the lake with her family. She enjoyed going to concerts and music festivals with her friends, painting, and cooking. She was a devout Cubs fan and was always up for a new adventure.
Amy is survived by her children Jimmy, Janie, and Andy Barnard, her husband James Barnard, her parents Linda (Felt) and Fred Schreiber, her brother Dave (Jennifer) Schreiber, her in-laws Jan and Durham Barnes, her sister-in-law Sarah (Michael) Helmicki, and her brother-in-law Durham (Victoria Sacks) Barnes. She also leaves behind her beloved dogs Elwood and Wrigley.
Services for Amy Barnard will take place on Friday, June 20, at 11 am at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Austin with a Celebration of Life reception to follow at Westwood Country Club. Memorials can be made to NAMI (namicentraltx.org) to support mental health awareness.
