

Andrew Eugene (Andy) Buntyn, a long-time resident of Austin, died peacefully on Sunday, December 8, 2013, after a brief illness. He was 95 years old. He is survived by his son, Robert, three grandchildren, Laura, Michael and Susan, and seven great-grandchildren, Alissa, Shane, Summer, Autumn, Sydney, Tabitha and Chloe.
He was born in Meridian, Mississippi on October 21, 1918, the last of the five children of Thomas Buntyn and Etha Collier Buntyn. His family moved to Tyler, Texas when Andrew was quite young. He grew up there and attended Tyler public schools, graduating from John Tyler High School in 1936. Then he attended a local business college and met Marjorie Adams. They were married on May 31, 1941, a partnership which lasted 68 years, until her death in 2009.
During the war years, he joined the Army Air Corps (now known as the Air Force) and served in the United States until his unit was transported to New Guinea in August, 1944. Later, his unit relocated to the Philippines, where he served until his return to the states in January 1946. In 1948, he began his career with the Texas Highway Department- THD (now the TxDOT) in Austin. In the years that followed, he worked as an investigator, and the family lived in Bryan and Houston. The family returned to Austin in 1966, and Andrew completed his career as a supervisor in the Correspondence Division. He retired from THD service in 1980 and enjoyed many peaceful years at his home.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening, on Thursday, the 12th of December 2013, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.
Funeral services will be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, the
13th of December 2013, in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas. Interment will follow in Cook- Walden Memorial Hill Cemetery.
