Anita Minerva Marquez, 94, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday February 9th, 2023 of natural causes. Anita was born in Laredo, TX on December 14th, 1928 to Leopoldo Rendon and Adela Paderes Rendon. She was raised in Alice, TX by her aunt and uncle. By the time she was a teenager she went back to Laredo to raise her brothers, Raul Rendon, Leopoldo “Pocho” Rendon Jr, Ernesto Rendon, Jesus Rendon, and sister Oralia Rendon. This sparked her love of caring for children and would greatly influence her future. She met Jose Marquez, who was starting his military career in the army. They got engaged at the age of 17 and married at 24 on November 25th 1951.
Anita had so many talents and had a deep admiration for arts & crafts, sewing, decorating, cooking, dancing, gardening, creating floral centerpieces, and learning whatever she could about any subject. Her true love, and what would become a part of her legacy, is how she shaped and developed so many children’s lives as a daycare owner in her own home. Every child had a special place in her heart and would spark relationships that lasted for decades into their adulthood. She earned the nickname “Grandma” from all the children she took care of because of her sincere care and love for each of them. This was a great example of how much these children reflected their love for her and how much of an amazing role model and caretaker she was for all of them. She was the kind of person who always thought of others and showed her generosity too many times to list. She would give her grandchildren handshakes with cash in her hands or try to solve a problem for anyone who needed help. A truly kind hearted special woman that this world was blessed to have. She will be missed and never forgotten. We love you Grandma.
Anita was preceded in her death by her parents; her husband of 71 years, Jose Marquez; beloved son Roger Marquez Sr; and her four brothers, Raul Rendon, Leopoldo “Pocho” Rendon, Ernesto Rendon, Jesus Rendon; and great grandchildren Vanessa Lockley and Madeleine “Chingy” Frady.
She is survived by her daughter, Anita “Anna” Marquez; sister, Oralia Rendon; niece, Gloria Rios; grandchildren, David Marquez, Madeline Roman, Roger Marquez Jr, and Heather Stan; great grandchildren, Vanessa Rachel Marquez, David Marquez Jr, Fernando Marquez, Rachel Roman, Brooke Roman, Dylan Stan; and great great grandchildren, Eduardo Marquez, Jessie Ramirez, Ariel Ramirez, and Damian Ramirez.
