Anne Louise Carter Hacker, 87 of Pflugerville passed away Sunday, September 6 after a long life of love and faith. The third child of Mary and Robert Carter was born in Charlottesville, Virginia on October 13, 1921. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, William Roy Hacker and brothers, Robert and Hudson Carter. She is survived by her sister, Alice Gullick, daughter Sue Anne Hacker, son Richard William Hacker, daughter-in-law Sidney Bailey Hacker, grand daughter Anna Elizabeth Hacker, nephews, nieces and friends. Along with her two older brothers and younger sister, Anne grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia. She met the future love of her life for the first time at the age of ten, a boy from Alexandria named Bill Hacker. When the boy became a young man, now stationed at Hickam Field in Hawaii with the Army Air Corp, she began to correspond with Bill up to and beyond the attack on Pearl Harbor. Throughout the war they continued their correspondence and on his return they married at the Methodist Church in Charlottesville on October 14, 1945. They initially lived in Alexandria, but then moved to Kansas City for Bill to study watch making. Upon completing his training, he took a job with Yale in Terra Haute, Indiana and they had their first child, Sue Anne. Their second child, Richard, was born in West Chester, Pennsylvania. The family moved once again to Birmingham, Alabama where she served as the President of the Methodist Women at Vestavia Hills Methodist Church, and then to Austin, Texas where Anne worked as a secretary for the Austin ISD. With each move Anne kept her focus on the family, the children and the home. After the children were grown, Anne and Bill moved to North Canton, Ohio where she worked as a secretary for the English Department at Malone College and then they both retired to Sarasota, Florida. After her husband's death in 1993, she moved back to Pflugerville to be near her family and continued her focus on family as she became an active part of her grand daughter's life. The service of remembrance and interment will be conducted at Riverbend Remembrance Garden in Austin, Texas at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2009, with Dr. Sidney G. Hall, III presiding. In lieu of flowers, please give a donation in Anne Hacker's name to the charity of your choice.
