

Annie Mae Miller Strom passed away at age 90 on July 9, 2006. A celebration of her life will be held at Hyde Park Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2006. Burial will be at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 14th at Rose-Hill Cemetery in Tyler, Texas. Ann was the daughter of Hershall and Callie Turner and was born on May 6, 1916 in Ennis, Texas. She grew up in Tyler, Texas and graduated from Tyler High School. Further educational achievements included an AA degree from East Texas Baptist University and a BS and an MBA from Texas State University. She also obtained her Paralegal Certification as well as a Texas Realtor License. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Hale Miller, her parents and two brothers. While married to Jim Hale, they settled in Kyle where she was very active in church and community affairs. Ann served as choir director for 18 years for the First Baptist Church of Kyle and was the first woman elected to the Kyle School Board. She served on the board of Hays County Historical Commission and Genealogical Society, the Texas Museum of History, and was the first president of the Kyle Heritage Association. She continued her efforts in historical and genealogy by serving as chairman of the Claiborne Kyle Log House Restoration Commission, the Kyle Heritage Society and the Readers Guild of Austin. She authored the book, Kyle, the Prairie City in 1981 and the book is now in most Texas libraries. She was an avid sportsman and years ago earned the nickname Sure-Shot Annie. She was also a proud member of the Hyde Park Baptist Choir. She leaves behind her husband, Dr. Oliver Strom; one son, Jim Hale Miller Jr.; and two grandsons, Michael Miller and wife Amy, and J. H. Miller. Also left to treasure her memory are Juaneita Turner, her sister-in-law and best friend for 65 years, as well as many numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and other family and friends. All will forever cherish the memories of her amazing life. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hyde Park Baptist Church Choir, 3901 Speedway, Austin, Texas 78751.
