One of Winston Churchill's 'Few and Finest' left us on Monday, November 18, 2013. Audrey's RAF Rank of LACW put her in Flying Control Operations at Wittering Air Base during WW II when England stood alone. Audrey lived through the Battle of Britain, The London Blitz, the Bombing of Hull and other actions, miraculously surviving physically intact.
In 1950, with two small girls in tow, she emigrated to the United States. In 1954, while living in Washington, D.C., she met and married the love of her life, moving to Texas where she remained for the rest of her remarkable life.
Survivors include her husband, Andrew F. Whitney; daughters, Lesley Carroll and Allison Goodwin (John); two sisters; and one brother in England; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Gene Carroll (2007) and oldest daughter, Ray Zimmermann (2008).
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Audrey's memory to Meals on Wheels or to the Humane Society.
