Barbara Haldeman Elliott Barbara Haldeman Elliott passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Friday, September 7, 2007 after a long battle with cancer. A Memorial Service in her honor will be held on Wednesday, September 12th at 11:00 am at St. Davids Episcopal Church at 304 East 7th Street in downtown Austin. Barbara was born on April 22, 1944, in Houston, Texas, to Edith and Edward Haldeman. The third of four children, she experienced a wonderful childhood in an active, warm, very close family. She graduated from Lamar High School in Houston in 1962, and from Texas Tech University in 1966 with a degree in Elementary Education. At Texas Tech, she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity for Women where she served as president during her senior year. She taught first grade in the Houston area, where she met and married Andrew C. Elliott, Jr. of Midland in April 1969. They moved to Bryan, where their first child was born and then to Austin, which became their home and where their second child was born. Barbara dedicated her life to her family and the children of Austin. She was a loving, steadfast wife and mother. Barbara ran her family in a loving, gentle way. She supported her husband Andys banking career for thirty-five years. In addition to her own daughters, she found joy in helping to raise eleven nieces and nephews, as well as many children of the Westlake area. Everyone knew they were welcome in Barbaras home, where something tasty was always in the kitchen, there was a quiet nook to study in, or a comfortable place to relax and watch a little football. Barbara believed in giving back to her community and making a difference in the lives of all children. She served as a volunteer at Seton Hospital, on the Pebble Project Board, as a member of the Assistance League of Austin (Operation School Bell), and most recently, served as a member of the Settlement Club. If there was a job to be done, Barbara did it quietly, cheerfully, and efficiently, with no need for recognition. She lived a joyous, peaceful, yet diligent life, constantly bringing family and friends together, for which they are all very grateful. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Edith and Edward Haldeman. Survivors include her loving husband, Andrew C. Elliott, Jr. of Austin; her daughter and son-in-law Ginny and Scott Wenger and their children Luke and Adam of College Station; her daughter and son-in-law Shannon and Jason Harvey and their children Ross and Elizabeth of Austin; her sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Pete Rose of Austin; her sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and Jimmy Hamilton of Houston; her brother and sister-in-law Ted and Judy Haldeman of Dallas, and her aunt Virginia Sharp Lott of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Her family is grateful to Dr. Kent Beasley, Dr. John Doty and Hospice of Austin for their support during her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to The Settlement Home for Children 1600 Payton Gin Road, Austin, Texas 78758; the Assistance League of Austin re: Operation School Bell at 4901 Burnet Road Austin, Texas, 78756-2609; or Hospice of Austin at 4107 Spicewood Springs Road Suite 100, Austin, Texas, 78759.
