

She had a deep love for travel, and after graduation from the University of Texas at Austin lived briefly in London and traveled Europe in the summer of 1957. Barbara was married to Thomas Anthony Lankes for 20 years. She was a loving and proud mother and grandmother.
Barbara was a proofreader and editor for the University of Texas for many years. In her retirement, she traveled to Ireland, Alaska, Belize, the Panama Canal and the Western and Southern Caribbean. She discovered cruising and tackled it enthusiastically. She was an avid sports fan, a reader, a sometime poet and full time word lover.
She lived by her beliefs in honesty, integrity, character, and fairness. She was fun and funny and was known to crack a quick pun. She enjoyed visiting and a good conversation with friends and family. She is survived by her five children Chris Lankes, Michael Lankes, Matt Lankes, Cathleen Sutherland, Andrew Lankes; her five grandchildren Emily Lankes, Autumn Lankes, Nicolette Sutherland, Sinead Lankes, Nicholas Lankes; one great-grandchild; her sisters Carol Hatfield, Gayle DeGregori, Beth Weber, Anne Sutherland, Lin Sutherland. She is preceded in death by her sister Kay Sutherland.
There will be a memorial service to honor and celebrate her life in the spring of 2023.
