Our incredible mother, Beatrice "Honey Bea" M. Hage age 94 passed away on June 7, 2023. The matriarch of the Philip J. Hage family went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at her home in Austin, Texas surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip, thirty years prior; her parents Pius and Emilie Friesenhahn, sister Genevieve Kollodziej and brother-in-law Chester Kollodziej, brothers Claude Friesenhahn and Andrew Friesenhahn brother-in-law Herman "Buddy" Weise and son-in-law William "Bill" Kilpatrick.
Beatrice (Friesenhahn) was born on May 25, 1929, to Pius and Emilie (Schneider) Friesenhahn on the family farm outside of New Braunfels, Texas. Beatrice was the oldest of six children. Her mother Emilie Friesenhahn passed when Beatrice was 7 years old, and Beatrice began being a mother at that age which continued until her passing. She left an incredible legacy that will continue to live on through her extraordinary family.
Beatrice moved to Austin at the age of twenty-four where she met and married her husband Philip John Hage, Sr. Their first date was to the University of Texas at Austin and the Texas A&M hex rally in Austin. Beatrice was a devout Catholic and as a member of the St. Ignatius Community she was heavily involved with activities associated with the church and school; when the children were younger, she was a room mother, a Brownie leader, and Cub Scout leader. At the church she was a Eucharistic minister, involved in prison ministry, a member of the Ladies Club, and Small Christian Faith Community group.
Bea volunteered at Seton South Austin Community Clinic and the South Austin Senior Community Center. She worked at the IRS, retiring after 20 years of service. Bea was a caregiver to everyone, fed and welcomed all with a loving and giving heart.
Bea was a wife, mother, grandma, daughter, sister, aunt, and a friend to everyone she met. She was a beacon of hope and was always available to listen, share a hug or offer wisdom. She was an avid gardener; loved to preserve fruits, vegetables or whatever was in abundance; and was known to many for her jams and jellies. She was always ready to teach anyone wanting to learn the art of preserving, cooking, baking, and sewing.
