Becky Ponder

Becky was born June 19, 1942, in Memphis Tennessee. She grew up the daughter of a Baptist Pastor who preached the Gospel to churches from Georgia to Arkansas. Growing up Becky enjoyed playing the piano and singing. As a senior in Heber Springs, Arkansas, Becky met the love of her life and married after graduating high school.

After seven years as a full time mom, Becky began her medical profession as a nurse’s aide. She continued her nursing education, culminating with a Bachelor degree. She loved all aspects of nursing but, what she enjoyed most was assisting with child birth and caring for the elderly.

Family was very important to Becky, she adored her children and their friends. She was known to everyone as Mom. She was active in church, studied the bible and sang religious songs daily. She enjoyed traveling and camping with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Luther “Pat” Ponder II; two of her children; Luke Ponder III and his wife Nadia; Jeff Ponder and his wife Hye Yeong; brother, John Baker and his wife Shirly; brother-in-law, Joe and his wife Carolyn; son-in-law, Bill Lee. She also, leaves three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Valarie Ponder Lee.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Zion Rest Baptist Church, 3326 Paisano Trail, Austin, Texas 78745. A private interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
