Bennie departed her life on Earth, at the age of 91, on Friday, November 6, 2020. She was born on March 31, 1929 in Bryan, Texas to Rev. John T. Shackles, Sr. and Irene Lewis Shackles. She was the first of two children. She was later raised by her stepfather Lee Roy Henderson.
She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband of 51 years, Roscoe Henderson, and her two sons: Harold and Elliott Henderson.
Bennie professed a hope in Christ at an early age and attended Bible Believers Christian Church. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. She later went on to start Abundant Life Ministries where she was a bible instructor to Christian Women.
She received her education through the Austin Independent School District and graduated from L.C. Anderson High School. She continued her education at Huston-Tillotson University and graduated with a BA in English. She also has a BA from Sidell Baptist Seminary. She worked at Expanded Nutrition Program, Director of Child Inc., and went on to become owner of the Alpha Omega Educational Center. She received humanitarian and religious awards, and dedicated her entire life to her husband and children. She was the most generous and giving woman and she would always say, "Where there is a need, plant a seed." She was a writer and loved to go fishing.
She leaves, to cherish her precious memories: her son Bishop Joseph Henderson; daughter, Lalane Rose Henderson; son, Rev. Willie Henderson; daughter, Cheryl Fisher; son, Clinton Henderson; brother, John T. Shackles, Jr.; nieces and nephews; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a lifelong friend, Mozell Freeman Shackles.
