Born in 1913 in Newton, KS, Bernice achieved her Certified Public Secretary accreditation and worked as a secretary/administrative assistant in Washington, D.C. and in Texas in the Oil Industry. She retired for the first time at 65 and then again at 85 after another 10 years of service with the State of Texas Coordinating Board.
Gammy, as she was known to most, married the love of her life Dewey Ford in 1959. They were happily married, enjoying swimming, gardening and dancing until they parted in 1979 when he passed. She was very close to and proud of her son, John Edward Alexander who also preceded her in death this last November.
Gammy Bernice Ford was a strong, determined woman with a great sense of humor. Even after Dewey passed, she continued to enjoy swimming, exercising and a nice glass of lemonade. She loved being around her friends, especially her dear friend Patsy Alexander-Rye. She will be missed by many but is now joining many others that also loved her.
She is survived by her granddaughters in Austin, Tracy Alexander and Terri Hanson; along with Terri's husband Greg Hanson; and her great-grandchildren, Blake, Brooke and Bethany. She was very proud and honored to have great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm on Friday, July 29, 2016 at Manchaca United Methodist Church, 1011 FM 1626, Manchaca, Texas with Funeral Service to begin at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
Donations may be made in honor of Bernice to her home church, Manchaca United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 460, Manchaca, TX 78652.
