

Betty McGee was born Betty Lou Nitscher to Herman and Gladys Nitscher in Alpena, Michigan. She attended Lincoln High School in Lincoln Michigan, graduating in 1949. She married Robert Murphy in 1954 and they remained married until his death on February 27, 1997. They had four children, Sharon Kay Murphy Cook, Patrick Michael Murphy, John Robert Murphy, and James Edward Murphy. Her husband, Robert, did tours of duty in Korea and Viet Nam. Betty and the family lived on several military bases, including Bergstrom in Austin.
After Robert's death, Betty married Fewer Edmund McGee on October 10, 2000, and they remained married until his death in 2013, living in Lockhart, Texas.
She was a devoted Catholic, and a member of St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church in Lockhart, Texas, although for much of her life, she was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Church in Austin, Texas.
She is survived by her four children, Sharon Murphy Cook of Waco, Patrick Michael Murphy of Austin, John Robert Murphy of Lockhart, and James Edward Murphy of Austin; stepchildren Edmund W. McGee of Lubbock and Kevin J. McGee of Kyle, Texas; grandchildren Logan Ashley Murphy, Heather Christen Webb, Holly Christin Webb, and Sarah Clay Cook; great grandchildren Basil Garth Sanford, William Douglas Cawley and Jaden "J.D." Murphy.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 4600 E. Ben White Blvd. Interment will follow at Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
