Billie Jane Farr Spann Franklin, born July 21, 1926 in Houston, Texas to Dwight Edward Farr and Marguerite Fay Jackson Farr passed away in the presence of her family on the evening of January 28, 2010 in Austin, Texas. Billie Jane grew up in Austin, graduated Austin High and attended the University of Texas – where she met and married Bob J. Spann. They moved to Corpus Christi where she and Bob raised their four children – Scott, Sandra, John and Rebecca. She and Bob parted ways in 1970. In 1982, she met and subsequently married John Lindsay Franklin, who passed in 1993. Throughout her life, Jane was active in civic organizations, as a volunteer, in her church and as a lifelong mother and grandmother. Late into her life, she was an avid dancer, bridge player, pianist and practical joker! As a part of her ongoing concern for the well being of her family, friends and community, Jane practiced an oriental healing technique known as Jin Shin Jitsu – a service she offered as a gift to those in need. Her ability to love unconditionally; her ready laugh – or, when so moved, tears; her spontaneous dance or jig; and her mischievousness will be deeply missed and dearly remembered. She was preceded in her passing by her mother and father, by Bob and by Lin. In addition to her family, friends and community, she will be remembered by her brother, Dwight Farr of Denver, Colorado, and her sister Marjorie Allen of Smithville, Texas; her children – Scott of Sausalito, California, and Sandra, John, and Rebecca of Austin; by her grandchildren – Kelly Spann of San Francisco, Tobin Spann of New York, Chanee' Grant of Boise, Idaho, Noah Spann of Austin, Kaelan Spann of Sausalito; and more cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends than we can name. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 1, 2010 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Services for Billie Jane will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 in the Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Austin Memorial Park. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 6th at First United Methodist Church, 900 S. Shoreline, Corpus Christi.
