Bobby was born and raised in Bastrop, Texas where he became an all-star athlete for the Bastrop Bears during his high school years. He lettered in multiple sports, but excelled in football as a running back. Bobby loved to reminisce about his football days and could even remember game scores and winning plays. After attending a year of college at Southwest Texas State University, Bobby moved to Austin where he met and married Sandy Jones in 1964 and had two daughters.
Bobby worked for the U.S. Geological Survey for 32 years as a map editor, but is best known for his love of woodworking, remodeling and homebuilding. There are many homes in and around Austin with room editions, decks, remodeled kitchens and even custom built homes that are a testament to his craftsmanship.
Bobby was kind, loving and had a great sense of humor, but most of all he was passionate and tenacious. He was a dreamer and loved taking on new challenges. After retiring from the U.S.G.S. he spent his time learning how to trade the stock market and developing strategies to make each trade successful. He was a charter member of Bannockburn Baptist Church, where he and his wife had attended since the church was founded in 1973.
He spent the last several years living with his daughter Melissa and her husband Dan Buchanan in Dripping Springs in a home that he helped design and build. He was surrounded by family, friends and his precious dog, Spooky.
Bobby is preceded in death by his wife, Sandy Jones. He is survived by his two daughters; Andrea Clark and husband, Harold Clark, Melissa Buchanan and husband, Dan Buchanan; brother, Jimmie Joe Jones; grandsons, Andrew Martinez and Joshua Martinez; and great grandson, Benjamin Martinez.
While he will be so greatly missed, we are comforted by the knowledge that he is in the presence of the Lord and once again dancing with his wife, on the streets of gold.
With your final heartbeat, you kiss the world goodbye, and go in peace and laugh on glory’s side.
