Bob was born to Luther and Beatrice Laughlin on Dec. 10, 1932.He was the fifth of six children. He graduated from Honey Grove High School in Honey Grove, Texas where he was a good student and loved playing football, tennis and he enjoyed fishing.
After high school, Bob joined the Air Force and spent four years serving his country, mostly in Japan. He then used the GI Bill to help get his degree in Accounting from the University of Texas. While he was at the University, he met his wife of 63 years, Barbara.
Bob spent 26 years with the National Western Life Insurance Company and retired as a Vice President.
Bob was an active member of Allendale Baptist Church, Great Hills Baptist Church and finally Hyde park Baptist Church. He and his wife were proud of the experience of being able to foster around 20 babies until they were adopted. He also felt this experience would be a positive influence on his children. He was an avid golfer at Lost Creek Country Club. Bob was also competitive at tennis and bowling. He was proud of the tomatoes he grew in the backyard. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family and especially enjoyed spending time with his "favorite" grandson Rob.
Bob is now in the presence of his LORD and Savior and with his daughter, Michelle, who died suddenly on December 14, 2022, the same day Bob was admitted to the hospital. We thank the LORD for the time we shared with him and the blessings we have received during his health struggles the last few years. We take comfort in his counsel in difficult times, "Remember, we are in God's hands." There is no better place to be.
The family would like to acknowledge the caring way Bob was treated over the years by Dr. Stanley Kim, Neurologist and Dr. Grady Bruce, Urologist. We are especially grateful for the tender, loving care he received from the hospice workers from St. David's Hospice, especially Kyleigh Merritt and Jennifer Landgraff. We feel so blessed by the care he has received from the medical community but also neighbors, friends and church members over the years.
Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara; his son, Mike; daughter-in-law, Gina; grandson, Rob Mitchell and son-in-law, Doug Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle Laughlin Mitchell.
A memorial service will be at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas 78752 on February 18 at 11:00am. There will be no interment but a time for visiting and refreshment will be held at the home of his family after the service.
