

Boyce Hornburg, 79, of Austin, TX passed away December 13, 2016 surrounded by his family. He valiantly fought chronic illness while living life his way as a devoted husband and father. He also found great success in business and never retired from the company he led for over 49 years. His dedication to his family, his wife and his work was superseded by none. He was compassionate, loyal, tenacious, quick witted, highly intelligent and sometimes mischievous.
Born in Austin to Doolan Boyce and Lena Ione Hornburg, he graduated from Eagle Pass High School and soon afterward hitched a ride to Austin on a cattle truck with only ten dollars to his name. He was a self-made man and a natural born leader. After serving in the United States Air Force as a cryptanalyst he attended the University of Texas and was awarded Outstanding Student of the year in 1962.
Among his many civic achievements he was the recipient of Austin's Outstanding Adult Volunteer Award in 1972, was the founding President of Big Brothers of Austin, past President of the Austin Optimist Club, past Governor of Capital City Youth Basketball Association, past Board Member of: Texas Adult Probation Project, Austin Rape Crisis Center, People's Community Clinic, Capitol City Playhouse, Northwest Austin Little League, Austin Humane Society, and Austin Consumer Counseling Service. In 1967, he joined Merchants and Professional Credit Bureau (MPB) as manager. In 1971 he took sole-ownership as President. He was well regarded in his industry as the past President of Associated Credit Bureaus of Texas, American Collectors Association of Texas, past Chairman of the ACB Collection Service Division, and past President of the Retail Merchants of Texas.
Boyce will be remembered for his amazingly brilliant mind, his gift for numbers, his love for animals, especially his spoiled puppies, his love for books, music, cars, and his passion for sports, especially UT Football and Basketball and his beloved Chicago White Sox.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Linda Roberts Hornburg, son Brennan Carr Hornburg and wife Cheyenne of New Orleans, LA, son Kernan Boyce Hornburg of Austin, daughter, Kiersen Hornburg Mogab and husband Joe of Austin, step-son Dr. Richard Helmer IV and wife Holly of Waco, step-son Kevin Helmer of Alexandria, LA, and step-daughter Alissa Chrisman and husband Clay of Austin. He is also survived by his brother Tommy Hornburg and wife Barbara of Waco, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and his 10 grandchildren: Zoe Beard, Von Hornburg, Byria Hamblin, Mira and Alex Mogab, Rich, Elizabeth, and Katherine Helmer, and Grady and Barrett Chrisman. He is preceded in death by his dear puppies: Tawny, Treska, Ridge, Shalon, Taggert, Tamerlane, Tracker, Tinker, Bridger, and Teddy.
A private family service will be held at the Riverbend Remembrance Gardens in Austin. A celebration of life will be held after the holidays. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to the Austin Humane Society or any animal advocacy charity of your choice.
