Catherine Anne Gaines Hillyer Catherine Anne Gaines Hillyer died peacefully on July 17, 2004 surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Scott Hillyer, and father, Clinton Sherwood Gaines. Cathy’s life was blessed by her three much loved children, Anne Elizabeth Hillyer, Stephen Scott Hillyer, Jr., and Sherwood Smith Hillyer. In addition to her children, she is survived by her mother, Mary Anne Gaines Goodearle and stepfather, James Roy Goodearle of Houston; grandmother, Carrie Catherine Gaines of Houston; sister, Alta Asmar and her husband, Charles, of Washington D.C. and their three children, Christiana, Charlie and Georgia; brother, Sherwood and his wife, Sally, of Minneapolis and their three children, Clinton, Savannah and Stella; brother, Greg Gaines and his wife, Jean of Houston and their three children, John, Maarten and Lucy; sister, Julie Gaines of Houston; stepsisters, Sarah Smith and husband, Curt, of Rochester, New York, Ellen Brown and husband, Craig, of Houston, Doris Funderburk and husband, Kevin, of Houston; stepbrother, Harold Goodearle and wife, Missy, of Houston; aunts and uncles and many cousins, of special note, the Cromers of San Saba; and her late husband’s cousin, David Dunham and his wife, Joan, and their three children, Hayden, Will and Patrick. Cathy was born in Frankfurt, Germany on February 23, 1959. Her life was centered around her children, her large and lively family, her community and her church. Blessed with a deep faith, quick wit and contagious enjoyment of life, her warmth and humor were a constant delight to her many friends. She was a frequent and enthusiastic volunteer for Casis Elementary School, O. Henry Middle School and the Elizabeth Ann Seton Board. Cathy will be greatly missed. The family wishes to thank her wonderful friends for their kindness and support. A memorial service celebrating Cathy’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3003 Northland Drive, Austin, Texas.
