

Cathy was born in Bradford, Pennsylvania on August 14t, 1952 to E.S. (Pete) and Barbara Scholl. After moving around many times, the family settled in Lafayette, Louisiana where Cathy graduated from Cathedral-Carmel as Salutatorian. After attending the University of Texas in Austin for her undergraduate degree, Cathy moved to Galveston to attend UTMB where she received her B.S. in Medical Technology with highest honors. She stayed in Galveston and played an integral role in the Blood Bank. She then attended Houston Baptist University in Houston for some of her pre-med studies and was accepted to UTMB Medical School where she obtained her Medical Degree. After completing her residency in Anesthesiology in Galveston she then moved to Boston where she did a Pediatric Anesthesia Fellowship at Harvard Medical School’s Children’s Hospital.
Cathy moved to Austin in 1987 and joined the group Austin Anesthesia Associates where she remained for 25 years. During this time, Cathy was a member of many associations including the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists where she was the President in 2007. She also held other positions including Secretary and was on the Board of Trustees. In 2010 Cathy was the recipient of the Betty P. Stephenson Circle of Friends Award. She was passionate about resident education and political advocacy and she established the TSA’s Texas Pint Award and the William H. King Resident Advocacy Awards to foster those activities. Cathy also had the prestigious honor of being a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology.
She was also a very active member of The American Society of Anesthesiologists serving on numerous committees including the Committee on Governmental Affairs, the Political Action Committee Board of Directors, Pediatric Anesthesia Committee and was Vice Chair of the Committee on Governmental Effectiveness and Efficiencies. She was also a very active member of The American Medical Association, The Texas Medical Association where she served on the Texas Medical Foundation Board, Council on Medical Education, Council on Legislation, and Physicians Benevolence Committee. She was also a member of The Travis County Medical Society where she was President, Secretary-Treasurer and Board Member.
She was also active in Austin serving on Leadership Austin and the Travis County ER/EMS as a committee member on the Steering Committee.
Cathy’s passion was always helping others and she took numerous trips with the organization Austin Smiles including places like Ecuador and Bangladesh.
Cathy was very involved in basket weaving and quilting along with many other crafts. She shared her passion with so many as was always willing to teach anyone who wanted to learn. She was born with a natural talent for so many things and always wanted to share her knowledge. She traveled with friends that shared her interests in all kinds of crafts which always made her smile.
Cathy will be dearly missed by all her knew her as she was on this earth to help others in any way she could. She never came to a meal, party, book reading etc. without gifts for everyone in the room.
Helping others and seeing them smile is what made her happy.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents Pete and Barbara Scholl and is survived by her siblings Peter, Susie and Tim and nieces and nephews, Michele, Jennifer, Patrick, Catherine, Ryan and Jeremy along with many cousins and her extended family of many, many friends.
