

Charles Leonidas King passed away on Sunday, December 4th, 2005 at home in Austin, Texas. He was born in Richmond, Virginia in 1926 to his parents Reverend Charles L. King and Annie M. King. Charlie grew up in Houston where he attended Kincaid and completed High school at Schriener Military Institute in Kerrville. He earned a Bachelor of Journalism degree from The University of Texas in Austin and graduated in 1951. He was a veteran and served in the Army Medical Corp at the end of World War ll. He had a long and rewarding career in radio and television advertising sales, holding local and national management positions. He was the President of the Houston Advertising Federation in 1970. In 1982 he accepted the position to become the General Sales Manager at KTBS Channel 7 in Austin where he worked until retiring in 1992. Charlie was an avid Texas Longhorn fan. He also loved the outdoors and had a passion for hunting, his beloved bird dogs and fishing. Until his health failed several years ago, if he wasnt at a Texas Game, he was fishing on the Texas coast or hunting in South Texas with his family and friends. He was loved by his many friends and respected by his peers in business. Charlie had a deep faith and served as an elder of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church while in Houston and also at Covenant Presbyterian Church after moving to Austin. Charlie is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Janet R. King, Also, his daughter, Jan Halbern and her husband Michael and their daughter Alexandra of Auburn, California, his son Chuck King and his wife Virginia of San Antonio and their three sons Barrett, Thomas, and Lukin King. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, and infant son. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday December 9th at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3003 Northland, Austin. The family also wishes to thank Charlies caregivers Helen Shepherd and Loretta Kizer for their loving care and assistance.
