Charles David (Boomer) Norman passed away Monday, January 24, 2022 in Austin, Texas at the age of 58. Boomer was dearly loved by so many throughout his life. Those in his immediate family are Luanna (Sissy) Norman, his wife; Joseph Cole Norman, his son; Jerry Paul Norman, his father; Susan Norman Finnell, his sister; Katrina Nutter, his niece; step-son and his wife, Jason and Stacey Bates, grand-children Tyler and Tessa Bates of Georgetown, TX and step-son Joshua Bates of Round Rock, TX.
Boomer was born January 14, 1964 to Barbara Ann Boozer Norman and Jerry Paul Norman. He grew up in Southwest Houston, TX, but called Austin, TX home. Boomer was born with a heart condition that challenged him throughout his life, yet Boomer never let his physical condition get in the way of his pursuit of music. At an early age he took a deep interest in guitar and began taking lessons. By his junior high school years he took up playing bass in the school orchestra and Houston All-City Orchestra, but was most passionate about playing guitar. Soon after graduating from Westbury High School in May 1982, he packed his belongings, jumped in his pick up and headed to Austin, TX to pursue his dream as a musician.
Though Boomer encountered many setbacks in the beginning, his unique playing style became well known among many bands and musicians. Boomer played lead guitar and bass for several bands, solo gigs and even traveled to Europe for two tours. Boomer didn’t care about fame or fortune, he just wanted to play music and bring enjoyment to others.
Through the years, Boomer’s heart condition worsened, leading to additional surgeries that led to a debilitating stroke in 2008. He lost the use of his left hand and could not play guitar. Boomer’s passion for music didn’t stop there, he continued to find ways to perform through playing piano single handedly and had decided just recently to take up playing the bass at the encouragement of his wife, Luanna. He never gave up his dream of music. Boomer’s very being was creating music.
Boomer will forever live on in the lives of those he knew through his loving gentle nature, humility and love for music. If you knew Boomer you had a friend for life. His legacy will live on in the lives of those he so deeply touched.
