She was preceded in death by her parents Selma and Ethel Brown and her husband of 55 years,Clyde Copus. She is survived by her brother and sister in law, George and Janice Brown, her daughters and their spouses, Cherie Copus, Cyndy and David Fisher, Caren and Tommy Baker, her adored grandchildren and their spouses, Christopher and Nicole Elbrecht, Scott and Megan Elbrecht, Will Fisher, Caroline Fisher and Matt and Tracey Fisher and great grandchildren, Reese Elbrecht and Scotty Elbrecht, much loved nieces and nephews and longtime friend, Melvin Simms.
She graduated from Austin High School and continued her education at the Nixon Clay Business College. She worked for Clyde Copus and Nash Phillips before becoming Clyde's bride, May 15, 1948.
Cherie enjoyed traveling with Clyde for business and pleasure and they were always delighted to spend time with their extended family and friends.
Cherie had a heart for service forged by her faith and belief in Jesus Christ. Her special loves were the honor of serving others on the Salvation Army Board, and volunteering for the Helping Hand Home and American Heart Association.
She found a special joy in serving her church community through Vacation Bible School, Sunday School, WMU, Training Union (all Baptist will know!) and especially with the International Women at Hyde Park Baptist Church.
Our mother was always interested in other people and their families. She was a "mother" to many who might need extra love and attention. Her greatest joy was spending countless hours with her grandchildren as they were growing up and they loved their "Momma C".
Special thanks go to her loving caregivers for the past two years, Chantal Dock and Florence Clarke Frederick.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Austin Baptist Church or Salvation Army.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 6, 2015 at Austin Baptist Church, 7016 Ribelin Ranch Road, Austin, Texas 78750.
