Christa Hanna passed away on January 7th, 2021 at her home in Austin, Texas. Her loving husband Bob and daughter Diana were by her side. She was born on August 8th, 1939 to Otto and Agnes Heinen of Trier, Germany. Although her early years were during World War II, she had a happy childhood, growing up with two older brothers and a sister.
Christa met her husband, Bob, while he was stationed with the U.S. Air Force at Hahn, AFB in Germany. They spent 20 years in the military. She enjoyed all the traveling and different places they were stationed, especially The Netherlands, where they lived from 1971–1975. In 1975, Bob was assigned to Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin. When he retired from the military in 1979, they decided they liked Austin and stayed.
Christa was the heart and soul of her family. She was a dedicated mom, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was always ready to sing songs, build Legos, fill coloring books, cheer at soccer games or cook play food in a toy kitchen. She found the way to everyone’s heart through her delicious cooking, passing down generations of German recipes to her own family. She gathered her family around her to share her love of traditions and German customs.
A devoted wife, she was a soulmate eager to share the world with her husband, Bob. They were a true team, through good times and time apart when Bob was serving his country in remote posts. Even when personal devices were the stuff of fiction, they recorded taped messages of hope and love and mailed them to each other across the globe to hold each other close.
Christa is survived by her beloved husband, Bob, loving daughter Diana Kirby and son-in-law Jeff Eller, 2 grandchildren whom she adored, Dustin Kirby and Kallie Eller , Dustin’s wife Jordan, and her great grandson, Wyatt Kirby. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Marlene Heinen of Darmstadt Germany, Lennelle Hays and Patty Paris and husband, Terry, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky. She is also survived by her niece Yvonne Heinen, husband Sobhi, and her nephew Harry Heinen, wife Andrea, and their daughters Julia and Helena, of Germany.
She was preceded in death by her parents Otto and Agnes, her sister, Trudi, and her brothers Klaus and Norbert.
