Christine, the oldest child of Ollie Estella Jackson, was born on January 29, 1932 in Forsyth, GA. At a very early age, the entire Jackson family packed up and moved to New York. Ollie Estella met and married Jackson Chambers. From that union Christine gained five siblings; Carolyn Louise, Odessa Patricia, James Gilbert, Jacqueline and Vernetta; and they were all raised in Harlem, NY.
Her elementary education began at PS 194, she attended PS 136 junior high school, and she graduated from Julia Richman High School in 1950. Christine’s walk with Christ began very early in her life. She was a member of Harlem’s Mother A.M.E. Zion church, also known as "Mother Zion”. Christine was very active in the choir and church programs. It was also through the church that she became a Girl Scouts’ leader.
On March 16, 1952 Christine married the love of her life, Allen Walter Wright, at Mother Zion church. From this union were two sons, Tyrone Allen Wright and Michael Orlando Wright. Their 59-year marriage was filled with great love, lots of joy and laughter; and their love for each other served as a true inspiration to their family and friends.
Allen, a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force, and Christine travelled and lived on several Air Force bases in Virginia, New Mexico, New York and South Carolina. In 1967, the family moved to Texas and made Del Valle their home. Christine was a faithful member of Unity Hill Church.
She enjoyed working at the Crest Haven Nursing Home and Fulmore Middle School in Austin, and at Bergstrom Air Force Base.
Christine, affectionately known to many as “Bunch”, loved talking to people, sharing her wisdom and making new friends. She was always living, laughing and having fun; her large heart embraced everyone she met. In her spare time she enjoyed planting as well as arts and crafts.
In July 2014, Christine moved her residence to Brookdale Senior Living Residence in Austin, TX where she made plenty of new friends.
Christine Jackson Wright entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 4, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen; her mother, Ollie Estella Jackson Chambers; brother and sister, James Gilbert Chambers and Jacqueline Chambers Peeples.
Celebrating her memory and cherishing her life are her sons, Tyrone Wright (Susan) of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Michael Wright (Brenda) of Austin, Texas; her grandchildren, Christopher Wright, Sr. and Courtney Wright; her great grandchildren, Christopher Jr. and Mya; her loving sisters, Carolyn Burke, Pat Cunningham and Vernetta Chambers; her adoring aunts, Dorothy Jackson and Anna Lee Briggs Moore; her dearest cousins, Kathryn Britto and Daphne Jackson Hornbuckle, as well as a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews, and many, many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, the 9th of May 2015, in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.
