

Claudia was born on June 16th, 1951 in Tampa, Fl second daughter to Herman Richard and Helen Richard. She grew up living in many cities as her father was in the military. She moved to Austin in 1979 to work for Tandem Computers. At Tandem she won the prestigious Tandem Outstanding Performer award two times over the course of her 16 year tenure. She left Tandem to work for Dell computers, where she worked until she retired in 2007.
In 2012 Claudia and Bill moved to Sun City Georgetown and spent their time traveling, golfing, playing pickle ball, and enjoying the company of friends, family and their only daughter Christie Powell, CP.
Claudia lived a life full of love, poetry, and music, which she instilled in her daughter CP. She loved watching science fiction movies, reading books, being outside in nature, and socializing. Whether in literature, poetry or song Claudia loved words and the stories people told with them. Claudia’s wit, charm, kindness, humor and compassion was felt by all through her presence and her uncanny ability to tell stories.
Claudia is survived by her husband William Powell and their daughter Christie Powell, CP, her father Herman Richard, 94, sister Debbie Pickard and husband Tom Pickard, sister Becky Minshew and husband Paul Minshew, brother Jeff Richard and his wife Terri Richard, nieces Cheryl Bendy, Gillian Goodwin and nephews Jonathan and Brenton Hierholzer.
Claudia is preceded in death by her mother Helen Richard.
The memorial service will be held on Saturday January 9th at 2:30pm at the Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills, 9700 Anderson Mill Rd. Austin, Tx 78750. In lieu of flowers please send all donations to the American Cancer Society.
The extent of the ache to the absence of a person truly speaks to the strength of the presence during life; Claudia lived a full and happy life but will be greatly missed by all those whose life she touched.
