Claudine Wade Barlow of Austin Tx transitioned home on April 16th surrounded by her loved ones, after a brief struggle with cancer.
Claudine was born on October 27, 1950, in Luling Tx to Oscar and Laura Wade. The family of 3 boys and 3 girls then moved to Austin Tx where she attended Austin Independent School District. At an early age her parents instilled deep-rooted values. She always spoke of how her dad would have her and her sisters out early cutting grass. All the kids in the neighborhood would laugh at them but they had the last laugh because their pockets were fat, and it only took her 30 minutes to get cleaned up and head to the Harlem picture show.
Claudine grew up in the church as the family were members of Simpson United Methodist Church. In her later years she became a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she served as a greeter. After the pandemic she didn’t attend church as she wanted to but that didn’t waiver her faith in God. As she was a praying woman who knew where her help came from.
In 1968 at a very young age, she married Jackie Robinson. In 1978 she married Leslie Barlow, and they raised 3 daughters, Karen, Kanetha and Lisa, who loved honored and adored her. She was a no nonsense, loving and devoted wife and mother. Claudine made her home full of love, laughter and joy. Friday and Saturdays her house was the gathering spot for family and friends. She loved her family, and her family loved her and her cooking, especially her macaroni and potato salad. Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday. She said, “the main ingredient in every dish is love. You got to cook with love.”
Claudine was employed by the City of Austin for over 25 years, working in various departments as a purchasing technician. After retirement she lived a private, quiet and relaxing life. She enjoyed the company of her daughters, grands and great grands. Her favorite pass time was going to her favorite beautician, Vicki Lynn, dancing, listening to music, candy crush and movies.
Claudine was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers Oscar DeLeon, Joe and Fred, 1 beloved sister, Rosemary Wade Alston, 2 sister- in-laws Brenda and Betty Wade 1 brother-in-law Frank Samuel Alexander.
She lives to cherish her memory, her husband, Leslie Barlow; 3 daughters Karen, Kanetha and Lisa; 1 stepdaughter Andrea Newsome; 4 grandchildren Brittany Melton, Stephon Spence, Ja’Lon Spence and Brandon Melton; 2 great grandchildren D’Mani and D’Aiden Williams; 1 sister Laura Wade Alexander; 1 sister-in-law Francis Wade 1 brother- in- law Irvin Alston; along with a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.
