Clifton Martin Nauert, 86, of Austin, Texas, passed away August 9th 2022, after a long battle with multiple myeloma.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 18th from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home 5416 Parkcrest Dr., Austin. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 19th at 10:00 a.m. at Austin Baptist Church 7016 Ribelin Ranch Road, Austin with a reception to follow.
Clifton was born November 1st, 1935, in Austin, the son of Martin and Erna Nauert. A star basketball player, he graduated from Austin High School in 1953. He continued his love of basketball, playing for Texas Lutheran University, and then transferred to Baylor University where he received his Bachelor of Religion Degree in 1957.
While in college, Clifton married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Joyce Schutt. The young couple relocated to Fort Worth for Clifton to continue his studies at Southwestern Baptist Seminary, where he received his Theology degree in 1962.
After serving as a pastor, Clifton became the Baptist Student Union Director for Gulf Coast Area Junior Colleges. He eventually returned to Baylor to pursue post-graduate studies in Theology.
In Waco, Clifton worked for Word, Inc., the groundbreaking Christian record and publishing company. At Word, he transitioned into computers and computer systems analysis. Over the next 30 years, Clifton’s expertise took to him several companies, including Electric Data Systems (EDS) and ending his career in banking systems software at Temple-Inland. While employed in the computer world, Clifton continued his ministry work, pastoring and teaching Sunday school.
Clifton was lovingly cared for during his long illness by his wife of 68 years, Carolyn. She survives him, along with siblings Lovey Driskell and George Nauert; sons, T. Craig and daughter-in-law Cynthia of Memphis, Tennessee, S. Clark of Waco, Texas, and P. Colin and fiancée Jennifer Golden of Austin, Texas; and grandchildren, Austin, Travis, Courtney, Clay, Charlotte, and Cameron, and great-grandchild, Hank.
In lieu of flowers. Memorials can be made to Austin Baptist Church or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
